A 45-year-old Lisle man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities alleged he was operating a boat while under the influence when it collided with another vessel, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to two other people.
According to investigators, Richard M. “Rick” Stevenson, 45, of Lisle, has been charged in connection with the fatal boating collision. Prosecutors allege Stevenson was impaired at the time of the incident and that the boat he was operating struck another vessel, leading to the deadly crash.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the collision involving two boats carrying a total of four occupants. Upon arrival, first responders rendered aid to those involved. Despite lifesaving efforts, one woman died from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
Two other individuals were injured and received medical treatment. Authorities have not publicly released the extent of their injuries or the identity of the deceased woman, pending notification of her family.
Following the preliminary investigation, Stevenson was taken into custody and booked into the McHenry County Jail, where he is being held without bail. Court records indicate he faces serious felony charges, including Reckless Homicide and aggravated offenses related to the fatal boating incident.
Prosecutors allege that alcohol impairment was a contributing factor in the collision. However, the investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement officials continue gathering evidence to determine the complete sequence of events that led to the crash.
The incident has renewed concerns about boating safety during the busy summer season, with authorities reminding the public that operating a watercraft while under the influence poses significant risks and can have devastating consequences.
Stevenson is expected to appear in court for future proceedings as the criminal case moves forward. Investigators have indicated that additional charges could be considered depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, family members, friends, and the community continue to mourn the loss of the woman who died in the collision while hoping for the recovery of those injured.
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist investigators to contact the appropriate law enforcement agency as the investigation continues.
